چکیده
Classical genetic research approaches to determining the genetic contribution to a multifactorial condition have been used to quantify the proportion of addiction and substance abuse that is a result of heritable genetic factors versus environmental factors. Family studies, twin studies, and adoption studies have all been applied for individuals and families with a history of addiction and substance dependence. As a whole these studies estimate that there is a 40% to 60% heritability for addiction and alcoholism. Family studies are used to assess the heritability of addiction by examining the risk of addiction in relatives of a known affected individual. Studies of alcoholism and other drugs have showed that first-degree relatives of individuals with addiction are at an increased risk to develop an addiction problem, compared with individuals without a family history. Family studies are often limited in the ability to exclude common environment factors shared in families such as living environment, socioeconomic status, and stressor events. Adoption studies serve as a tool to limit the shared environmental factors that arise in family studies by investigating individuals raised by nonrelated adoptive parents. Numerous studies of alcoholism have suggested that children with a biological family history of alcoholism raised by nonalcoholic parents are at an increased risk for developing

Stem Cells Application in Modeling of Human Genetic Diseases
The use of animal models in modeling of human genetic disease has many advantages. In some cases, however, this method may not be applicable due to some limitations, such as differences in tissue composition, anatomy and physiology of humans and animals. Isogenic human disease models are a population of cells that are selected or engineered to model a specific genetic disease, in vitro. They ar...

Several factors have incentive role for study of aging which includes increasing of the average and maximum of human life span, the increase in percentage of elderly in the societies and proportion of the national expenditure utilized by them. The Recent views of aging indicating that aging is extremely a complex multifactorial process despite of earlier views about definite cause aging like ge...

Objective(s): Semiconductor zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have unique properties, such as inherent selectivity and photosensitization effects under ultraviolet (UV) radiation. ZnO NPs serve as promising anticancer agents. However, UV radiation limits their penetration into the body. In most clinical settings, it is essential to use high-energy photons in the treatment of deep-seated tumors...
متن کاملDerived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Addiction Related Hippocampal Damages
The brain is an important organ that controls all sensory and motor actions, memory, and emotions. Each anatomical and physiological modulation in various brain centers, results in psychological, behavioral, and sensory-motor changes. Alcohol and addictive drugs such as opioids and amphetamines have been shown to exert a great impact on brain, specifically on the hippocampus. Emerging evidence ...

DESPITE THE IMPORTANCE OF NUMEROUS PSYCHOSOCIAL FACTORS, AT ITS CORE, DRUG ADDICTION INVOLVES A BIOLOGICAL PROCESS: the ability of repeated exposure to a drug of abuse to induce changes in a vulnerable brain that drive the compulsive seeking and taking of drugs, and loss of control over drug use, that define a state of addiction. Here, we review the types of molecular and cellular adaptations t...
